Antique table or niche Lamp of Alabaster-white Italian Carrara Marble; an opening in lid of this unique, urn-type lamp allows for the escape of the heat from a small electric bulb; display lamp with or without the attractively carved lid. This small Box is likely turned from Bamboo and would have been from a joint in the stalk; finish lacquered in dark red, "oxblood". Note the superb craftsmanship of the box, the pleasing, natural indented shape; tiny incised grooves around the lid top, and around the edge of the top rim indicate old machinery, or hand-turning. While we do not guarantee this piece is older than 1900, we believe it may be very early 19th Century, and possibly even earlier.

Americana at its best; a 19th-20th Century, North Dakota Cabinetmaker, Herbert Asp, made this occasional table by hand, in the winter of 1917. His wife created the embroidery which is designed to stretch under the glass top. The embroidery is against a net-type backing, and is of silk thread; "before" photos show it against yellow satin background. Antique, crudely handmade, Wooden Box with handpainted floral and gilt decoration against black painted ground, with random overlays of paper-thin mother of pearl. Wood box with two hinges, thin aluminum-like lining to the interior (not tin, possibly partially painted silver), velvet on base. 9.25" x 6.25" x 5.75" tall.
