Wood Box Handpainted in Dutch floral, Tole style, on lid and all four sides; beautifully carved feet, and serpentine shape of box. 7.75" x 5.5" x 2.5" (19.68 x 13.97 x 6.35 cm). Scattered wear scratches to the lid painting, and through the gilding to the gesso; paper-velvet lining has a tear, right side near back. Mid-Century Reverse-painted on Glass, Mirror in silver-gilt wood frame. The original painting in reverse, is the library building at Oklahoma State University, OSU, Stillwater, Oklahoma. This lamp is lovely when used as in the first photo. If desired, the pictured shade is also available for it. For many years, the owner used this lamp as you see it in photo no. 2, even though the two glass pieces are not an exact match. We are not certain this is a Bohemian Shade; it could also be American as it looks very much like some of the tall Lundberg Studios shades. However, this shade has no fitter rim, so it was undoubtedly made for a specific purpose, possibly intended to hang. There is all-over iridescence, "oil spots," mottling, and even some feathering here and there. The fluted rim is folded for extra stability. "Made in Italy" is stamped on the reverse of this beautiful little shelf. It is intentional that the red undercoating show through in spots, while both gold and silver are attractively scattered over the entire surface.
