Large, "honeycombed" marble casket, box, with yellow metal fittings. Unmarked, we suggest it is Italian, or perhaps French in origin. Nice shape, with lovely veining and coloring; 4.50" x 4.50" x 4.25" (11.43 x 11.43 x 10.79 cm) tall. Some oxidation to the metal. Heavy. c. 1910-1930. $16 US Shipping.
This small Box is likely turned from Bamboo and would have been from a joint in the stalk; finish lacquered in dark red, "oxblood". Note the superb craftsmanship of the box, the pleasing, natural indented shape; tiny incised grooves around the lid top, and around the edge of the top rim indicate old machinery, or hand-turning. While we do not guarantee this piece is older than 1900, we believe it may be very early 19th Century, and possibly even earlier. ...click for details
